About the Artist
Richell Castellón Ferreira was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, on January 12th, 1985. He took his first steps as an artist at an early age, teaching himself to draw and participating prominently in art competitions.
After finishing primary school he attended night workshops held at the House of the Culture of Cienfuegos, where he developed his skills as a painter.
After completing his secondary school education in the year 2000, he enrolled at the School of Arts "Octavio García Hernandez" in Cienfuegos. Specializing in fine arts (first ranking) from 2000 to 2004, Richell then continued studying at the Pedagogical Institute at Universidad Cienfuegos for four more years, specializing in painting, completing his bachelor's degree in art in 2008.
Richell has participated in national and international art events. Currently his work is exhibited continuously in Spain and Denmark through his representative in Europe.
Richell is mostly known for his evocative street scenes of Havana and Varadero, Cuba, working in acrylic on canvas. Working deftly from light to dark, the artist is able to create the impression of buildings, cars and people with his expertly placed loose brush strokes. His paintings are mostly monochromatic in tone with splashes of rich color, and glow with an inner light.
Richell currently lives and works in Syracuse, New York and is furthering his exploration of street scenes in his new home.
